Jordan Spieth: A Look At Golf’s New Darling

With the vacuum created by back injuries and the off-green drama to golf’s most dominant figure Tiger Woods, the sport had to find a new star. Golf did not need to wait long, as with Tiger’s absence came the rise of Jordan Spieth.

The “need for Spieth” phenomenon is well justified. The young player has already won three majors and was the 2015 FedEx Cup champion. He is also a former world number one-ranked player who was named among the 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine in 2016. Time said of Spieth: “(he) exemplifies everything that's great about sports."

In just three years, Jordan Spieth has become a dominant force in golf and is its current darling. Yes, even with the recent return of Tiger Woods, the eyes of many golf fans, critics, and fellow players are on this 24-year-old phenom. He is the youngest U.S. Open champion since Bobby Jones in 1923. Just this year, Spieth won his third major at the 2017 Open Championship, finishing with a stunning three shots at 12 under par.

The future is bright for the sport’s young generation of players that include Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, and Hideki Matsuyama. And while Spieth has missed the cut at the Phoenix Open, except him to come back strong in succeeding PGA Tour installments in 2018.
